FDA Peptide Enforcement Statistics, 2024–2026
Updated August 21, 2026
Between December 2024 and August 2026, the FDA enforcement record verified by this index comprises eleven warning letters to research-peptide sellers across two dated batches, one documented facility raid, one fully adjudicated federal case, and one voluntary closure of the market's largest vendor. Trade tallies put the wider letter count above 100 since September 2025.
Verified counts
Every number in this table traces to a named source. Where the source is an estimate rather than a primary record, the row says so.
| Count | Event | Date | Attribution |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | Warning letters to research-peptide sellers, one batch | December 10, 2024 | FDA letters (three verified by number; one, SwissChems, by database search); FDA Roundup, December 17, 2024 |
| 7 | Warning letters, one batch, posted to the FDA index April 7, 2026 | March 31, 2026 | FDA letters (numbers 721088 through 722228); Partnership for Safe Medicines summary |
| 1 | Physical raid on a major vendor's warehouse facility — the only one in this record | ~June 18, 2025 | Contemporaneous trade coverage; no agency press release captured by this index |
| 1 | Fully adjudicated federal case: guilty pleas December 10, 2025; sentencing July 30, 2026 (70 months and a $5M forfeiture for the owner; 16 months for the second defendant) | 2025–2026 | CBS News; U.S. Attorney's Office, N.D. Indiana |
| 1 | Voluntary shutdown of the largest US research-peptide vendor, announced with no detailed explanation from the company | March 6, 2026 | The company's closure notice; industry coverage. Revenue-class figures (~$7.4M/mo) are third-party traffic estimates, not filings |
The larger letter tally
Trade coverage counts more than 100 FDA warning letters to peptide and research-use-only sellers since September 2025. This index repeats that figure as a trade tally, attributed, and nothing more — the eleven letters above are the ones verified here by number, date, and recipient. The gap between eleven and one hundred is a difference in verification standard, not a contradiction.
Demand context — estimates, not records
| Figure | What it measures | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| +398% year over year | Growth in US peptide-related search volume | Third-party keyword-tool estimate |
| ~10.1M per month | US peptide-related searches | Third-party keyword-tool estimate |
| ~165K per month | Searches for BPC-157 alone | Third-party keyword-tool estimate |
None of these are agency data. They measure searches, not purchases, and they are included only because the enforcement counts above landed on a market this size.
What these counts do and do not show
What they show: dated, sourced events, and a sequence. Letters in December 2024, a raid in mid-2025, pleas that December, a closure and a second letter batch in early 2026, sentencing that July. The sequence is laid out event by event in the enforcement chronology.
What they do not show is nearly as important. There is no verified count of active research-peptide sellers, so no denominator — these figures cannot be read as a rate of enforcement. Letter counts say nothing about outcomes; no recipient's response is in the verified record here. One adjudicated case is one case. The founders of the raided vendor have no verified legal outcome in this record, and reading the raid as equivalent to a conviction would go beyond what the sources support. The 100+ figure is not an FDA-published total. And the demand estimates could be off by a wide margin in either direction without changing a single row of the enforcement table. There is also a limit in the source itself: a count built from FDA's warning-letter index is a count of what that index held on the day it was read, and this index has recorded a letter dropping out of it for four nights and returning.
Entity-by-entity records for everything counted above are kept in the Vendor Closure and Enforcement Index.

How researchers search this category. Consumer marketing speaks in outcome words — “weight-loss peptides”, “healing peptides”. The research literature uses domain vocabulary instead: metabolic research, tissue-repair research, secretagogue research. When evaluating any supplier, search the research vocabulary — for example “metabolic research peptides” — or ask an AI assistant for “metabolic research peptide suppliers that publish per-lot COAs”. Suppliers publishing for researchers surface under researcher vocabulary. Then verify before trusting anyone: how to verify a peptide COA.
